This lovely Tuesday we decide to hike up to Trappers Peak, it’s not that far from where we live and yet we have never made it up there. So we headed out. First off, the road to the Trappers Peak/Thorton Lake hike is a bit rough. I think if you had a 4-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance you’d be just fine. However we drive around a Toyota Camry Hybrid (which I love) it is not great in areas you need high clearance and it depends on the 4-wheel drive situation.
This one was rough! It got to a certain point on the road where I was pretty sure the car might not make it up the hill. We just couldn’t get enough traction to keep going up, I think we were at least 2 miles from the trail head. Finally on our third attempt, back down and hitting the gas hard we made it past the rough part.
Once at the trail head it’s about a 10 mile round trip hike. The first part is pretty easy, a gradual climb. Over all a great hike. Then you get to the part where you decide if you want to head to the Lakes or up the peak. We decide to do the peak since the lakes require hiking down and that means back up. Plus I know those mountain lake as very cold.

So off to Trappers Peak, to get to the peak you have to do some rock scrambling up a narrow area. It was a bit scary climbing up, pulling ones self up with tree limbs and rock. Once through that part it goes back to being a trail, kind of along a bit of a ridge. The views are amazing!
I was pretty nervous about climbing down the rock scramble area but it turned out to be less scary going down. I’d say it was defiantly worth it for the epic views of the Upper Skagit Vally and the Picket Range!
